Media Relations Account Director (Full Time)
We seek an Account Director with agency experience, proven media relations skills, strong writing ability and excellent project management. Applicant should have a minimum of 8 years of relevant work experience and be detail oriented, demonstrate critical thinking, and possess an interest in the healthcare environment. The position also requires effective time management and the ability to juggle multiple projects.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage day-to-day account work, which may include: drafting a wide range of written materials, coordinating events, maintaining client and media contact and managing projects, creative and tactical problem solving
- Act as a liaison between client, outside vendors and, as appropriate, other internal and external audiences (i.e., media, advocates, medical experts, bloggers, other interest groups)
- Manage implementation of events, such as press conferences, media briefings, advocacy and/or investigator meetings, etc.
- Supervise junior staff on various account projects and activities
- Apply budgeting skills to projects
- Support new business proposal development and pitches
QUALIFICATIONS
- Communications experience with proven media relations skills (media outreach, project management, social media promotion, event execution, etc.) and strong writing ability
- Project management experience, demonstrating ability to meet deadlines, prioritize changing needs and work within budget parameters
- Supervisory skills, with ability to manage and cultivate junior staff and effectively collaborate with subcontractors
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills, flexibility and professional manner
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative, manage several tasks simultaneously and work both independently and as a team
- Solid working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
- Understanding of the changing healthcare environment
EDUCATION
- Bachelors degree or higher
- Healthcare communications experience preferred

Public Relations Intern (Full Time)
JPA is seeking a summer Public Relations Intern. We are looking for candidates who are detail oriented, excel in writing, demonstrate critical thinking and possess a strong interest in pursuing a career in public relations/public affairs.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide client support on various activities, projects and events. Past internship activities include:
- Research: Identifying, evaluating and analyzing information and data, including developing succinct, accurate summaries of research
- Media Outreach: Developing and updating media contact lists, drafting pitch materials, pitching reporters and monitoring coverage
- Writing: Developing various client documents, including memos, press releases, fact sheets and other materials
- Event Planning/Project Management: Developing project work plans, providing onsite event support
- Assist in strengthening JPA’s foundation as a leading communications agency. Past internship activities include:
- Communication Vehicles: Drafting copy for JPA blogs, newsletters, tweets, Facebook posts and more
- Organization Research: Updating JPA’s Profiler tool, including conducting desktop research and liaising with patient advocate groups to update organizational information
- New Business: Conducting research and supporting the development of proposals
- Provide operational assistance at JPA’s Washington, D.C. office. Past internship activities include:
- Business Contacts: Managing business contact database
- Administrative Assistance: Answering phones, managing office supplies and preparing conference rooms
QUALIFICATIONS
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills, flexibility and professional manner
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative, manage several tasks simultaneously and work both independently and as a team
- Solid working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
- Willingness to learn about the healthcare and non-profit environments
- Able to commit to 40-hours per week for eight weeks in JPA’s Washington, D.C. office
EDUCATION
- Working towards Bachelor degree, preferred in public relations, communications and/or marketing
- Advocacy and/or healthcare experience preferred, but not required
